Surabaya (DreamLandLibrary) - May 31 is designated as the anniversary of the City of Surabaya to commemorate the events of May 31, 1293, at which time Raden Wijaya (Founder of the Majapahit Kingdom) succeeded in driving away the Tar-Tar army and finally the Mongol army fled through Ujung Galuh, a a small village located in the North Surabaya area at the moment.
Hundreds of years later, Ujung Galuh was transformed into the city of Surabaya, the second largest city after the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
